"And after you scrub the floors then wash
the windows, dust the furniture, polish the pots, do the laundry, and then
weed and water the garden" said Madame Josefine, the owner of
Whistlewoods Mansion. "But you know that that garden is haunted. I
refuse to go anywhere near it. I would rather polish the bottom of your shoe
for a week and a half then any more than take a look at that
garden"Nelsie, Madame Josefine's maid, rejected. "Well then if you
want to put it that way then you may polish the bottom of my shoe after
you weed and water the garden along with all of your other chores, now
go!" she yelled back and Nelsie began out of the door. " I'll take
care of the garden maam. It isn't anything dangerous to me for I'm
already wasted and meaningless. No curse worries me" said the new
servant, Diana, whom thought that serving other people was the worst
punishment in the world and I guess that I should agree with her.
Maybe I should catch
you up with the surroundings of this story. This story takes place in the
enormous Whistlewoods Mansion, which as I have already said, belongs to
Madame Josefine whom owned thirty-five servants. Each one of them cared
for the other as much as you care for your parents and brothers and sisters.
Madame Josefine cared none for the servants because to her they were nothing
but stupid people who did her every order and if didn't were severely
punished. Diana was most likely the most alert and interesting servant.
When she wasn't mourning on how horrible her life was she was hard at work
singing her sweet, soothing songs. Nothing other than herself seemed to
bother her but that was probably because she had been captured from her home,
which is completely leading me away from the story. She had long,
beautiful blonde hair and was the youngest, blue eyed beauty in the whole
mansion at only the age of 15. Nelsie wasn't as young, perhaps 40, and
had grayish brown hair which she always kept in a neat little bun. All
the other maids were dole, and had no special qualities worth talking about so
I shall move on.
"Now Diana, I shall not
have you taking up for everybody's job but as long as it gets done that I
don't care who does it. Now both of you get to work! " Madame
Josefine answered and they both dashed off. Because Diana is probably going to
do the most interesting thing than we shall follow her and speak of her
findings if any.
"My oh my, what a
cursed garden!" Diana gasped as she approached the old dead pit of
plants. White lattice fences surrounded the whole garden and wild looking
plants climbed it in a most disorderly manner. Inside the garden was
weeds, weeds, and maybe a few plants but because of the weeds you couldn't see
them. Old white wooden benches and tables were set in various places
around the garden, most of them covered with dead ivy. Cracked marble
statues were set next to them and let you know that the garden used to be very
beautiful.
"I suppose that it
would be reasonable to start unrooting weeds and then watering what plants
there may be left" Diana said to herself and so she did. The weeds
were stably set in so by the time Diana was done unrooting them it was just
about dark. Even so, without even a mumble she wiped the sweat off of
her face and went back to work watering. "Diana! Come on back now!
Please! Diana!" Nelsie called from the doorway of the mansion. "Calm
down Nelsie! I'm going to finish up and then I'll be right there!" Diana
called back and did so. "If only I could have been an actress in a
wonderful movie. Or a writer of a most splendid book. Then I would have
amounted to something but no. I am no more than a servant in a long dirty
dress. Uuuughh! If only" Diana murmured to herself as she walked
upon the most amazing thing ever.
