Rare Books Available
Dear Friends,
I wish all of you a prosperous, blessed and literary 2011. I am a Kenyan author passionate about writing but even more passionate about Dyslexia - a writing disorder. I need some help as I am in the process of setting up a Dyslexia Awareness Unit here in Kenya. Currently I tutor children who can't afford private tuition to overcome the challenge from my home which is almost being shut down due to outstanding rent arrears. I am in the process of setting up Foundation for the same cause.
Most organizations have asked me to open a school and then they can chip in financially but it has been hard to raise funding and financing because most banks and financial institutions that lend to SMEs still insist on collateral which i don't have.
It has been extremely hard financially keeping my daughter (now 15 in Form Three - high school) in a private boarding school with a smaller class because our public school teachers are not sensitized on Dyslexia.
I now need to raise between US$ 2,500 - 5,000 to initiate the small class outside my home so that I can secure funding.
The immediate way I can raise funding is to auction some first edition books I've had in my possession for more than 30 years. Who ever buys them will be giving a contribution aka philanthropy towards a noble venture! Let us treasure literary heritage and culture. The books are on Kenyan founding father Jomo kenyatta and Prof Ngugi wa Thiong'o. These are also collectors items for Kenyatta and Ngugi scholars and experts.
Posted and attached are photos for perusal. I am asking for US$ 600 for each of these precious books but will sell to the highest bidder. I shall provide my Paypal account for the buyer to deposit the money and she/he will have the book via post in four days time.
The Four books are titled:1) The Day Kenyatta Died – By Hilary Ng’weno (This was a Special Edition book only produced to commemorate the day the founding father of Kenya Jomo Kenyatta passed on in 1978) - the book is now 32 years-old and still in good condition. (Longman)
2) Suffering Without Bitterness: The Founding of the Kenya Nation – By Jomo Kenyatta (1st Edition 1968) – the book is now 42 years-old and still in excellent condition. (East African Publishing House)
3) The Kenyatta Succession: The Full Story of the Change-The-Constitution Move and the ‘Ngoroko’ Affair – By Philip Ochieng & Joseph Karimi (1ST Edition 1980) – now 30 years-old. Good condition. (Transafrica)
4) Secret Lives and Other Stories - By Ngugi wa Thiong'o - 1975 1st edition AWS (African Writers Series) Orange cover - now 36 years-old, good condition - published by Heinemann and autographed by the professor for me last month (Dec 2010)
Best regards.
