A BIRTHDAY GIFT

One day, President Jimmy Carter realized with panic that it
was his wife Rosalyn's birthday, but he had forgotten to buy her a
gift.  All the stores were closed, because it was a Sunday.  He
thought hard what he could do, and remembered that he had often
criticized her for being late.  So he wrote her a note promising
that he would never again nag her. He said this was the best gift
he could ever give, not only to his wife, but also to himself,
because he no longer needed to feel responsible for his wife, and
she was moved and made an effort not to keep him waiting anymore.
