HOW A TOWN FOUGHT HATE

Early on a Sunday morning in December 1996, someone broke the
living room window at the home of a Jewish family living in a
Catholic neighborhood in Newtown, Pennsylvania, and destroyed an
electric menorah that they had displayed in celebration of
Hanukkah.  All the families in the neighborhood then went out to
buy menorahs and displayed them in their windows.  Many vowed to do
so each year from now on.  "No one should be intimidated from
showing their faith, whatever it is, and wherever they may live,"
said one of the Jewish family's neighbors.
