Secret Knowledge of the Qu'ran - S.M. Zakir Hussain

9. Mysterious Shift of Tenses:

Secret Knowledge of Qu'ran Chapter 1

God is present in all segments of time. As a result, although He uses tenses of different types while communicating with us, the way He uses the tenses shows that He approaches us by referring to any segment of time as the present. That is because He is the Ever-Present. Let us see some examples. Also see the density of tenses.

9.1.

10: 4. To Him is the return of all of you; it is a promise of Allah in truth. Look! He  produces  creation, then  reproduces  it, that He   may reward  those who believe and  do  good works with equity; while, as for those who disbelieve, theirs  will be  a boiling drink and painful doom because they  disbelieved .

9.2.

10:45.  And on the day when He  shall gather  them together, (when it will seem) as though they  had stayed  only an hour of the day, recognising one another, those  will Certainly have perished  who  denied  the meeting with Allah and  were  not guided.

9.3.

11:18.  Who  does  greater wrong than he who invents a lie about Allah? Such will be brought before their Lord, and the witnesses will say: These are they who  lied  about their Lord. Now the curse of Allah is upon wrong-doers,

11:19.  Who debar (men) from the way of Allah and would have it crooked, and who are disbelievers in the Hereafter.

11:20.  Such people  will not escape  (punishment) in the earth, nor do they have any protecting friends except Allah. For them the torment  will be  double. They  could not bear  to hear, and       they  used not to see .

11:21.  Such are they who  have lost  their souls, and that which they used to invent has failed them.

11:22.  Assuredly in the Hereafter they  will be  the greatest losers.

9.4.

43:66.   Do they wait  for anything except the Hour, that it shall come upon them suddenly, when they do not know?

43:67.  Friends on that day will be foes to one another, except those who  kept  their duty (to Allah).

43:68.  O My slaves! For you there  is  no fear this day, nor is it you who grieve;

43:69.  (you all) who  believed  Our revelations and were self-surrendered,

43:70.  Enter the Garden, you and your wives, to be made glad.

43:71. Therein are brought round for them trays of gold and goblets, and therein is all that souls desire and eyes find sweet. And you are immortal therein.

43:72. This  is  the Garden which you are made to inherit because of what you used to do.

43:73. Therein for you is fruit in plenty from which you will eat.

43:74.  Lo! the guilty  are  immortal in hell's torment.

43:75.  It is not relaxed for them, and they despair therein.

43:76.  We  did not wrong  them, but it was they who did the wrong.

43:77.  And they cry: O master! Let your Lord make an end of us. He saith: Lo! here you must remain.

43:78.  We verily  brought  the Truth to you, but you were, most of you, averse to the Truth.

43:79.  Or do they determine any thing (against the Prophet)? Lo! We (also) are determining.

43:80.  Or deem they that We cannot hear their secret thoughts and private confidences? Nay, but Our envoys, present with them, do record.

9.5.

55:37.  And when the heaven  splits  asunder and becomes rosy like red hide  55:38.  Which is it, of the favors of your Lord, that you deny?

55:39.  On that day neither man nor jinni  will be  questioned of his sin.

55:40.  Which  is  it, of the favors of your Lord, that you deny?

55:41. The guilty  will be  known by their marks, and will be taken by the forelocks and the feet.

55:42.  Which is it, of the favors of your Lord, that you deny?

55:43. This  is  hell which the guilty deny.

9.6.

58: 6.  On the day when Allah  will raise  them all together and inform them of what they  did . Allah  has kept  account of it while they forgot it. And Allah  is  Witness over all things.

9.10.

83:22.  Lo! the righteous certainly  are  in delight,

83:23.  On couches, gazing,

83:24. you  will know  in their faces the radiance of delight.

83:25. They  are  given to drink of a pure wine, sealed,

83:26.  Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss -

83:27.  And mixed with water of Tasnim,

83:28.  A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink.

83:29.  Lo! the guilty  used to laugh  at those who believed,

83:30.  And wink one to another when they  passed  them;

83:31.  And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting;

83:32.  And when they  saw  them they said: Lo! these have gone astray.

9.11.

43:68.  O My slaves! For you there  is  no fear this day, nor is it you who grieve;

43:69.  (You) who  believed  Our revelations and  were  self-surrendered,

43:73. Therein for you  is  fruit in plenty whence to eat.

43:74.  Lo! the guilty  are  immortal in hell's torment.

43:75.  It is not relaxed for them, and they despair therein.

43:76.  We wronged them not, but they it  was  who did the wrong.

43:77.  And they cry: O master! Let your Lord make an end of us. He says: Lo! here you must remain.
